New picture of murdered German backpacker Inga Maria Hauser

By Staff Reporter

A new photo of a murdered backpacker has emerged - nearly three decades after her brutal killing.

Inga Maria Hauser (18) from Munich died in 1988, shortly after arriving in Northern Ireland on a ferry from Scotland.

Her body was discovered two weeks later, on April 20, 1988, in a remote part of Ballypatrick Forest on the outskirts of Ballycastle, Co Antrim.

The previously unpublished photograph forms part of a blog, The Keeley Chronicles, written by Dublin-born singer Keeley Moss, who has written songs about the life and death of Inga Maria. She describes her work as a tribute to Inga Maria and the continuing mission to uncover the truth behind a murder still unsolved nearly three decades later.

SDLP MLA John Dallat, who shared the photo online, described Inga Maria's murder as "a cruel deed which devastated her family".
