New PSNI Chief Constable Simon Byrne has celebrated the end of his first week on the job with a vlog outlining how he has settled in to his new role.

On his first day on Monday he oversaw a policing operation at the east Belfast Somme commemoration parade and since then, he said that he has begun the journey to help him find out more about the organisation.

Mr Byrne previously said he wanted to "refresh" the PSNI's approach to community policing by focusing more time and staff on engaging with the public.

He also said he would advocate greater use of cutting-edge technology in everyday policing.

Speaking in his vlog, which was posted yesterday to the PSNI's YouTube channel, the Chief Constable said: "It's been a fantastic first week so thank you for your welcome and I look forward to the work I need to do in the months ahead."
