New school guide to deal with critical incidents
A new guide to managing critical incidents in schools has been launched by Education Minister John O'Dowd.
The guide was commissioned by the Department of Education as part of the iMatter Programme.
It provides guidance to schools on how to be prepared for a critical incident and on ensuring effective management before, during and after the event.
A critical incident may be defined as any sudden and unexpected incident or sequence of events which causes trauma within a school community and which overwhelms the normal coping mechanisms of that particular school.
The guide will be distributed to all grant-aided schools and will be made available on the department's website at www.deni.gov.uk.
The DVD will also be available to access on the ESaGS.tv website.
