New Sinn Féin MLA pledges to fight for all
Emma Rogan, Sinn Fein's new South Down MLA to replace Chris Hazzard, has said she will "fight for all the citizens of the constituency".
Mr Hazzard won the Westminster seat in the general election, ousting the SDLP's Margaret Ritchie.
Emma Rogan said she was "truly honoured" to be stepping into local campaigns.
“So I’m excited at the thought of getting out and about with local Councillors, MLAs and of course our new MP to get to grips with the issues in all of our local communities,"she said.
“First and foremost I’m looking forward to getting stuck into some of the big campaigns that Sinn Féin are involved in locally - namely the fight to protect services in the Downe Hospital, the fight to protect local Social Security Jobs in Newcastle and Ballynahinch, and the ongoing need to help restore Downpatrick as a thriving county town.
“I am delighted to be part of that strong and growing Sinn Fein team which is driving change across this island.
“Equality, rights and respect are at the heart of everything we do and these are the core principles on which we are building support for Irish unity,” said Ms Rogan.
