New Year Northern Ireland bus, train and bin collection arrangements

Christmas is here once again and as is usual there are changes to public services over the coming weeks. Below is the Christmas arrangements for your council area for bin collections and information on bus and rail timetable changes.

Belfast City Council

No bin/recycling box collections on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

If your bin/recycling boxes are due for collection on Mon 25 Dec, leave them out for collection on Sat 23 Dec.

And if your collection is due on Tues 26 Dec, it will be on Christmas Eve (Sun 24 Dec) instead.

For Monday, January 1, collection will be on Saturday, December 30.

Antrim and  Newtownabbey Borough Council

No collection on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Waste recycling centres at Ballygowan, Bangor, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood. Kircubbin, Millisle, Newtownards and Portaferry will be closed on 25, 26 and 27 December 2017 and 1 January 2018.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

Bin and food waste caddy collections (if applicable) scheduled for Monday 25th December 2017 will take place on Saturday 23rd December except for Limavady council legacy area when collections will take place on Friday 22nd December.

Collections will take place as normal on Tuesday 26th December.

Bin and food waste caddy collections (if applicable) scheduled for Monday 1st January 2018 will take place on Friday 29th December for Limavady council legacy area and Saturday 30th December for Coleraine and Moyle council legacy areas.  No change to collections for households in Ballymoney council legacy area. Bins should be out for collection at 7am.

Derry City and Strabane District Council

In Derry, black bins normally collected on Monday December 25th will now be collected on Saturday December 23rd, black bins normally collected on Tuesday December 26th will be collected on Saturday December 30th and blue bins for Monday January 1st will be collected on Saturday January 6th.

In Strabane, black bins normally collected on Monday December 25th will now be collected on Saturday December 23rd, black bins will be collected as normal on Tuesday December 26th and blue bins due to be collected on Monday January 1st will be collected on Saturday December 30th.

Refuse centres across Derry and Strabane will all be closed on Christmas Day and most will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, a full listing of opening hours for refuse centres during the holiday period is available on Council’s website.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council

There will be no bin collection service on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 December 2017. Bins due for collection on Monday 25 December will be collected on Saturday 23 December 2017.

Mid Ulster District Council

If your bin is due to be collected on Monday 25 December it will now be collected on Saturday 23 December.

Bin collections will take place as normal on Tuesday 26 December and Monday 1 January, except for the Dungannon area where collections will take place on Saturday 30 December instead of Monday 1 January.

Buses and trains

Translink holiday timetables come into effect on Christmas Eve.

Ulsterbus, Metro or Northern Ireland Railways services will not operate on Christmas Day and services will end earlier than usual on Christmas Eve.

Ulsterbus and Metro services will be operating a holiday timetable on Boxing Day 2017, Tuesday 26th December.

Ulsterbus, including the X1, X2, X3 and X4 and Metro will run full schedules on 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th December and will operate holiday timetables on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, with an early evening close on New Year’s Eve.

Northern Ireland Railways will run a regular service with some exceptions on Christmas Eve. There will be no train services on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. Saturday timetables will operate on 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th December.

NI Railways will operate normal schedules on New Year’s Eve, Sunday 31st December, with an early evening close and a Sunday service will also operate on New Year’s Day.

Belfast to Dublin Enterprise Trains will run their usual schedules on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, with the last train leaving Belfast Central at 7.05 pm and the last train leaving Dublin Connolly at 7.00pm.

Enterprise services will not run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, while a limited service will operate on New Year’s Day.
