Newry police pelted with stones by kids as young as 12

By Staff Reporter

PSNI officers came under attack from stone-throwing "little darlings" as young as 12 as they dealt with an incident on the A1 close to Newry yesterday.

The officers were pelted as they attended a sensitive situation in the area of the Camlough Road roundabout and Newry train station.

The PSNI Newry Facebook page revealed "children as young as 12 from the Park Head estate thought it would be fun to throw large pieces of masonry".

"In addition to the obvious danger of a brick hitting a police officer on the head, this type of behaviour only frustrated our efforts in dealing with the original call. This is totally unacceptable, dangerous and completely pointless.

"Thank you to all those parents who had control of their children and knew of their whereabouts.

"To the parents of the children involved in today's antics, we would appreciate if you were able to educate your little darlings on the rights and wrongs of society as well as the dangers it poses to passing motorists."
