North Belfast attempted armed robberies: Man held by police

A man has been arrested in connection with two attempted armed robberies in north Belfast.

The first happened at a shop in the North Queen Street area at around 3.20pm, after a man armed with knife demanded money.

He then made off empty handed in a silver car.

A short time later a man, matching the same description, entered another shop.

He claimed to have a knife, and once again demanded cash.

The suspect in both incidents was described as being of heavy build, wearing dark rimmed glasses and a baseball cap.

Around an hour after the first attempted robbery, a silver car was stopped by police in North Queen Street.

The suspect, who is in his 20s, remains in police custody.
