North West 200: French motorcyclist Frank Petricola left fighting for his life after crash
French motorcyclist Frank Petricola was fighting for his life in hospital following a crash during the North West 200.
The 31-year-old collided with a telegraph pole at Primrose corner during a practice session for the Superstock class yesterday.
He was riding for the Ice Valley Racing Team on a BMW bike.
Mr Petricola was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where last night a spokesman described his condition as "critical but stable".
Only a few minutes of the Superstock session remained when the crash happened and the red flags were deployed immediately, bringing an end to the action for the day.
Well-known English rider Ian Hutchinson also crashed yesterday but was much less seriously injured and remained upbeat.
He tweeted a grisly picture of a badly injured finger with the comment: "Not ideal but I'm ok, thanks for the messages."
