Northern Ireland basks in the sunshine, with clear skies forecast for the weekend

People across Northern Ireland have been soaking up the sunshine with more high temperatures forecast for the weekend.

Across the province on Friday conditions were in the mid-teens in most places, with highs of 16C around Belfast and the east coast.

Sunny spells are expected to continue throughout the evening, with some fog patches and mist expected on Saturday morning.

These will make way for clear conditions with good sunny spells, the best of which will be seen in Co Antrim and Co Down, and possible high temperatures of 18C.

It is possible there will be some showery outbreaks of rain in the evening.

There will a cooling into Sunday, with more cloud and some showers and longer spells of rain expected.

Thursday was the warmest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching 20.4C on the north coast, and around 18C in other parts of Northern Ireland.

In parts of London temperatures soared to 29C, making it the hottest April day since 1949.

Across the UK on Saturday temperatures will remain high thanks to a band of high pressure, which will subside into Saturday.

In southernly parts of the UK temperatures are expected to go as high as 23C on Saturday.
