A 12-year-old boy is in hospital after the was knocked off his bike by a car in Co Down.

It happened on the Comber Road just outside Killyleagh on Wednesday at around 4.30pm.

A rapid response ambulance and a A&E crew were sent to the scene.

The boy was treated at the scene before he was rushed to the Ulster Hospital emergency department where he remained on Wednesday evening.

There are no details on his injuries but they were described as not life threatening.

Police closed the Comber Road for a time to allow for the boy's treatment and to investigate the incident.
