A Co Down nursing home has been charged with a health and safety offence.

Slieve Dhu Ltd, which manages a nursing home on the Bryansford Road in Newcastle, faces a single charge of failing to ensure the health and safety of a non-employee on June 22, 2016.

The circumstances of the offence were not revealed during the brief hearing at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court.

Slieve Dhu Ltd allegedly "failed to conduct your undertaking in such a way as to ensure, so far as was reasonably practicable, that persons not in your employment who may be affected thereby were not thereby exposed to risks".

The case had been scheduled for a preliminary enquiry yesterday, which would have seen the case referred to the Crown Court. However, a defence solicitor asked for the case to be adjourned for a month to allow her time to "consider the papers".

District Judge Amanda Brady put the case back for four weeks.
