The going is good for a plan to mark the achievements of Sir Tony McCoy - with a sculpture of the horse racing legend the favoured idea.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Council officials have sounded out the proposals with the McCoy family.

The proposal is for the sculpture to be sited at Brecart roundabout on the main Belfast to Londonderry road at Toome, around a mile from the Moneyglass house where McCoy (42) grew up.

A report drafted for the council's committee revealed: "Informal approaches have been made to the McCoy family who have indicated that they would be supportive of a permanent form of recognition."

The report added: "At this stage it appears that a sculpture on Brecart roundabout could be a potential option, both because this is a gateway roundabout to the borough and because it is located close to the McCoy family home."
