Northern Ireland health watchdog to open doors to public

Northern Ireland's health regulator is hosting a public information event.

The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) is holding its first open-house event for members of the public to find out more about its work.

There are two sessions available tomorrow. It will be possible to meet staff and find out what the RQIA does.

The organisation carries out a range of functions but is best known for the inspections it carries out at health facilities in Northern Ireland.

It has been responsible for driving up hygiene levels in hospitals as a result of the unannounced inspections it carries out, examining infection control practices in wards and ensuring all equipment is clean and properly stored.

There are two sessions at RQIA headquarters at Riverside Tower in Belfast, from 10.30am to noon and from 2.30pm to 4pm. Email info@rqia.org.uk or ring 028 9536 1921.
