Northern Ireland rallying to the cause of refugees

By Staff Reporter

Rallies are to be held in Omagh, Londonderry and Belfast as communities across Northern Ireland join in demanding action from the EU and national governments to help refugees fleeing war and persecution.

In the Co Tyrone town there will be a rally at the Courthouse at 1pm tomorrow, hosted by Omagh Trades Council.

Later, a Derry Trades Council march will leave Waterside station at 2pm to march to Guildhall Square for a rally.

Another rally will be held in Belfast at 2.30pm to show support for the refugees fleeing war-torn Syria.

The demonstration, which will take place in front of Belfast City Hall tomorrow, has been called by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and Amnesty International.

It is taking place just two days before a summit of European Union ministers to discuss the escalating refugee crisis.
