A Polish road worker has reportedly been crushed to death by a roller on the Bog Road, Forkhill in Co Armagh.

The man was thought to have been laying a new road surface when the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating.

The SDLP's Justin McNulty said: "Such a tragedy, a young man going about his day's work and to die in such a tragic way.

"My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family back home in Poland. My thoughts are also with his work colleagues and those from the local community and the emergency services who attended the scene."

A Department for Economy spokesman said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this difficult time."

There are no further details at this stage.
