Northern Ireland team welcomed back with homecoming event

An official homecoming celebration for the Northern Ireland football team will be hosted in Belfast on Monday.

The event at the Titanic Quarter fan zone has been arranged to give supporters a chance to greet the players who performed so well at Euro 2016 in France.

Northern Ireland qualified for the last 16 in what was their first ever appearance at a European Championships. Their adventure ended on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to Wales in Paris.

Stormont Sports Minister Paul Givan announced details of the homecoming event.

"The event will take place at the Belsonic Fan Zone site at Titanic Quarter on Monday 27th June and will give the fans the opportunity to see the team as they return from their historic journey in France," he said.

"Michael O'Neill and the team have made the whole country proud and it has been fantastic to see the green and white army getting behind their team, both in France and back home."

The event is ticketed, with tickets available from 6pm on Sunday via the Ticketmaster website -

There is a £2 charge, half of which will go be donated to the NI Cancer Fund for Children.
