Northern Ireland weather warning for fog extended

A yellow warning for fog has been extended for Northern Ireland.

The fog will persist in some parts of Northern Ireland during Thursday.

The warning is in place from Thursday 3pm until Friday 3am.

It will become thicker towards the afternoon.

The Met Office has said the fog will lift and clear from the west later on in the evening and into the early hours of Friday as winds strengthen.

PSNI driving in fog advice:

  • Make sure ALL your lights are working before you drive. With this visibility, especially in the dark, not doing so could be deadly.
  • If visibility is LESS than 100 meters then use your fog lights. If and when visibility increases, turn them off.
  • DO NOT drive about with your full beams on. This will actually decrease your visibility due to the angle of your full beams reflecting back off the fog and blinding you. What gets through will just blind other road users.
  • Allow extra journey time. Don't be driving about for the sake of it.
