A Northern Ireland woman has been convicted for claiming £63,063 benefits she was not entitled to.

Margaret Griffin (69) of Main Avenue, Newry, claimed the pension credit and housing benefit while failing to declare capital. She was given a two month prison sentence suspended for two years.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

Appearing at Newry Crown Court, she was also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
