A former plumber has made a big splash in another industry by snapping up an award at the biggest photography convention in Europe.

Tony Moore, a fine art photographer from Co Tyrone, saw his decision to take the plunge into a new venture pay dividends with success in the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) awards at the Hilton Hotel in London.

He wasn’t the only local snapper celebrating as Audrey Kelly, a wedding, portrait and fine art photographer from Co Londonderry, also beat off thousands of others to scoop a prize.

The SWPP is an international photography society with thousands of members from across the globe.

Both Tony and Audrey won the awards in their categories, including Advertising and Commercial Photographer of the Year and Open category winner respectively, travelling to London to collect their prizes.

Audrey also picked up third place in the coveted Photographer of the Year section.

With over 12,000 image entries from professionals from around the world, these prestigious awards are highly sought after.

Speaking after the event, Tony commented: “Believe it or not, I worked in the plumbing industry for 30 years. I started photography partly out of curiosity of how a camera worked, but always liked art, drawing local street scenes.

“A lot of hard work and many hours have paid off.”
