Nursery group’s charity boost with pyjama party

A south Belfast nursery has become the first in Northern Ireland to hold a ‘Genevieve’s Big Pyjama Party’ to raise funds for the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF).

Over the Rainbow Day Nurseries’ raised a total of £785.95 with the party.

Children from the nursery came dressed in their pyjamas to raise money for UCF’s Family Support Service.

This vital service offers specialist emotional support to the entire family when a close family member has been diagnosed with cancer.

During the fun-filled afternoon UCF’s Genevieve the Goat read from ‘Genevieve and the Farmyard Olympics’, a book aimed at children aged 3-4 years old.

The book, with support from Lidl Northern Ireland, has been sent to every nursery in Northern Ireland and highlights the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Bernie McElroy, proprietor of ‘Over the Rainbow Day Nurseries’ said: “For the last 22 years we have promoted regular physical activity and healthy eating for the children in our care. It’s important to introduce healthy lifestyle messages to children at an age when research shows they are most receptive.

“Our ethos dovetails into UCF’s work in cancer prevention with young children which is about making the healthy option the fun option. We are delighted to support UCF’s work which is helping families in our community.”

You can support UCF by holding your own ‘Genevieve’s Big Pyjama Party’ at your local nursery or playgroup. Each child will receive their own personalised certificate.
