OAP murders accused is remanded for four weeks

By Paul Higgins

The case against a man accused of murdering Portadown pensioners Michael and Margorie Cawdery has been adjourned for a month.

Thomas McEntee (40) appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court via video-link from Maghaberry yesterday.

McEntee, from Moorfield Court in Kilkeel, is in custody accused of murdering Mr and Mrs Cawdery at their home in Portadown on May 26.

A relative found the bodies of the couple, who were both aged 83, at their home on Upper Ramone Park and police have said the pensioners suffered very violent deaths.

As well as murder, McEntee is further charged with burglary and the theft of the couple's car, which was found by police about a mile from the scene.

A prosecuting lawyer yesterday told the court the investigation was in its early stages, so a further four-week remand was being sought.

McEntee was remanded back into custody to appear again on July 21.
