OAP targeted in distraction burglary

By Adrian Rutherford

An elderly woman has been targeted in a distraction burglary.

During the incident, which occurred in the Dover Walk area of Belfast on Thursday afternoon, a man claimed to be from the water board and entered the woman's home.

At the same time other men accessed the rear garden of the property, off the Shankill Road.

They were disturbed by a neighbour and were seen to leave in a dark coloured vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson urged people to treat unexpected visitors with caution.

"Genuine callers will carry ID - please ask them to provide their ID documents for your inspection before permitting entry to your home," he said.

"I would also urge people to be aware of any neighbours or relatives that may be potentially targeted in this way."

Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward. Detectives can be contacted on 101, quoting reference 1053 07/06/18.
