A police officer has been injured after an accident during weapons training at a PSNI facility.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon at Seapark police station, near Carrickfergus in Co Antrim.

The PSNI confirmed no one else was involved, and the male officer was recovering at home.

"A police officer received hospital treatment for minor injuries which occurred during firearms training in the Carrickfergus area shortly before 3pm on Wednesday," it said.

"First aid was administered at the scene and the officer is now recovering at home."

The Police Ombudsman's Office said: "Police informed the Police Ombudsman's Office about an incident in which an officer was injured during firearms training at Seapark police station near Carrickfergus.

"After discussion, it was decided that there is no requirement for an investigation by the Police Ombudsman's Office."
