A man has escaped serious injury in an arson attack on a house in Omagh after his neighbours alerted him to the fire.

A container of flammable liquid was placed at the back door of a house in Glenhull Walk just before 2am on Thursday, May 14, and set alight.

The Fire Service attended and put the blaze out. Considerable damage was done to the door with smoke damage inside the home.

The man inside escaped unharmed.

Detective Inspector Michael Winters said: “This was a mindless attack which endangered the lives of the occupant and his neighbours.

"We are working to establish a motive for this incident and I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the fire or anyone with any information which could assist us with our enquiries to contact detectives in Omagh on 101 quoting reference number 95 14/05/20.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
