Haiti musical evening — a musical evening to raise funds for Haiti is to take place at Willowfield Parish Centre, Woodstock Road, on Saturday, March 6, at 7.30pm.

Compered by local entertainer Wilfred Pyper, the concert will feature a varied programme of performers including Festival Brass, conducted by Alan Corry, soprano, Mairead Healey and the newly formed Assumption Grammar School senior choir, conducted by Geraldine Cochrane.

All performers are giving their time freely to raise money for the work of Christian Aid in Haiti.

Softball training — Belfast Aviators Softball Club will start its training for the new season on Sunday, March 14, at Shorts Recreation Club, Aircraft Park, Holywood Road, Belfast.

Action Cancer bus — the Action Cancer Big Bus will be making a stop in east Belfast this month.

On March 18, 24 and 27 the bus will be located at the Laser store at Connswater Shopping Centre.

The vehicle houses cancer prevention and early detection services, and staff on the unit also provide information about support.

Services available include digital breast screening for women aged between 40 and 49 and over 70, as well as health promotion and MOT health checks for men and women.

World Book Day — local libraries are encouraging children across east Belfast to take part in World Book Day 2010.

The biggest annual celebration of books and reading takes place on Thursday, March 4.

Children can come along to Ballymacarrett Library and hear stories and make ‘story-time masks' of their favourite book characters.

The event takes place from 6pm-7pm this Thursday, March 4. Contact Carol James at Tel: 9050 9207 for more information. At Holywood Arches Library there will be an exhibition of favourite children's books, picked by the staff. The event takes place until Saturday, March 6, during opening hours.

And on Friday, March 5, a special World Book Day Rhythm and Rhyme session will take place in the library. The event takes place from 10am-11am and 11am-12pm.

School reunion — Bloomfield Collegiate's class of 1990 will be holding a 20 year reunion this year and are looking for many ‘old girls' to get back in touch.

The event will take place on May 7, at 7.30pm in the Pavilion, Stormont.

Former head girl Kathryn Murray said the group was having “problems tracking down some old chums”.
