On par for charity

Back by popular demand Meningitis Research Foundation in association with Woodvale Cricket Club is holding it’s second charity golf day at Belvoir Park Golf Club on Thursday, August 26.

Golfers everywhere are invited to join to help raise much needed funds for the foundation.

On arrival players will be served bacon rolls and tea/coffee. Players will receive a goodie bag on the first tee and on course refreshments will be provided free of charge by a roving buggy.

Free hot dogs and burgers will be provided adjacent to the 12th green.

After golf there will be a prize giving and speeches followed by a ballot. All this for £50 which includes a donation to charity.

The foundation relies on your voluntary donations to fund its work in research, awareness and support for people affected by the diseases. Your help could save a life.

Ormeau Baths Gallery

Situated in the former Victorian swimming baths, one of the foremost exhibition spaces is offering a range of activities to celebrate August Craft month.

An exhibition by Chair of the Craft Potter’s Association and key figure in Bristih ceramics will feature through thought August. Jack will host a Walk around tour of the gallery this Saturday, July 31 at 2pm. Free admission.

On Saturday, August 7, ceramicist John McKeag will host a workshop inspired by Jack Doherty’s functional pottery. The pieces will be made during the workshop, fired off-site and available to collect a week later. The cost to attend this ceramic workshop is £5 and materials will be provided.

Artist Jim Russell will host a workshop creating willow sculptured lanterns (perfect for summer garden decorations) the following Saturday, August 14, from 2pm —fee of £5.

Don’t forget the Saturday Art Club continues in August to encourage and nourish the artists of the future.

The classes are designed to enable children of all ages and abilities to engage and respond to contemporary art.

The workshops are created by experienced artists who explore a wide range of mediums and themes related to the current exhibition with themed workshops by professional makers and artists,

Running every week from 10.30am to 12.30pm at a cost of £3, the following is the schedule for next month:

August 7 — Children’s workshop (eight-10-year-olds)

August 14 — Family Workshop

August 21 — Children’s workshop (11-13-year-olds)

August 28 — Children’s workshop (six-eight-year olds)

Summer Schemes

Summer Schemes at OBG offer children and young people the chance to work on a more extensive creative project.

Summer fellowship meeting

Richview Presbyterian Church will continue their summer fellowship meetings on Monday evenings at 8pm in the War Memorial Hall, Donegall Avenue.

Those taking part in leading the meetings, starting from Monday, August 2 will be Mr & Mrs James Clarke, Mr & Mrs Norman Craig, Mr Alan Cousins (AIM), Mr Robert Roberts and finishing on the August 30 with The Bangor Boys. All will be made very welcome.

The Belfast Welcome Centre is encouraging parents across the city to discover the great range of events and activities taking place over the summer to keep the children entertained.

Belfast has plenty of indoor and outdoor activities including canoeing at Shaw’s Bridge on August 7, free performances by the Festival of Fools at Cotton Court each Sunday until August 29, Bat Nights at Colin Glen Forest Park, running August 3 - 5, tours of Aunt Sandra’s Candy Factory and a number of events taking place at W5 throughout July and August.
