The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has launched a new-look website which will provide the latest news relating to the Orange Order as well as promoting the ethos and history of the organisation.
It also contains many enhanced features, including a user-friendly shop providing a wide range of official Orange products.
The website development comes as the Loyal Institution embraces social media for the first time by creating its own official Twitter feed and Facebook page.
The Twitter initiative was launched in early August and already has attracted much interest. The use of the micro-blogging site has allowed the Grand Orange Lodge to highlight a broad range of issues and newsworthy items that relate specifically to the Institution, as well as engage with other users. It is hoped the Order’s Facebook page will serve a similar positive purpose.
Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Edward Stevenson, said: “The new website will play an important part in relaying a positive message of Orangeism to a worldwide audience.
"This will give a vibrant new look to the Orange Order's communications online and incorporates new social media. Our Twitter account, which is in the vanguard of the new website, already has over 2,000 followers, proof of the interest which the Institution generates. We trust our new Facebook presence will also prove to be an online success.”
Dr David Hume, Orange Order Director of Services, said: “Users will notice a major improvement from our current website as well as benefiting from the services of our new online shop.”
