Orange Order slams graffiti attack

The Orange Order has condemned a graffiti attack on one of its halls.

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland said republican slogans were daubed on the Rasharkin Orange Hall a week after the building was targeted in a petrol bombing.

A spokesman appealed for political pressure to end such attacks.

"It seems that Rasharkin Orange Hall has been singled out for a series of attacks," he said.

"There are clearly people in the area who have absolutely no respect for the Orange Order.

"These are blatantly sectarian attacks and we would call on the police in the area to increase the security cover they provide for Orange Halls.

"It is staggering to think that people have attacked this Orange Hall on 23 different occasions in the past two years.

"Politicians need to put pressure on the police to ensure that these attacks are stamped out.

"People must not fall into the trap of retaliating in any way - it is up to the police to find the people responsible, with the help of the community, and deliver them to the courts."
