Ormeau Road to get £300k facelift
One of Belfast's busiest arterial routes is to get a £300,000 makeover.
A Department for Social Development request to invest the cash in a facelift for the Ormeau Road has been approved by Belfast city council.
The council has already provided £150,000 in the 'Renewing Routes' scheme which was invested in the area from the Annadale Embankment to the Rosetta Roundabout.
This additional money will be used to spruce up the area of the road from Cromac Street to the Stranmillis Embankment.
Work has already started on shops such as Threads, the Furniture Discount Warehouse and Chinese restaurant Macau.
SDLP councillor Kate Mullan is an enthusiastic supporter of the plan. She said: "This very positive scheme is welcome as it will bring a well-needed boost to the local small businesses."
Over 30 businesses and buildings along the upper part of the Ormeau Road will receive facelifts including painting, signage or lighting with the works being completed by autumn 2013.
