Pair charged with rioting in Derry on night of Lyra McKee murder

Two men have been charged with offences in connection with rioting in Derry on the night journalist Lyra McKee was murdered.

Lyra (29) was shot as she observed the disturbances from behind police lines in the Creggan estate on April 18.

Vehicles were hijacked and police attacked with around 50 petrol bombs and other missiles after raids on homes in the area.

A 51-year-old man has been charged with riot, petrol bomb offences and arson of a hijacked vehicle. A 38-year-old man has been charged with riot, petrol bomb offences and the arson and hijacking of a tipper truck.

Both men are due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Two other males aged 15 and 18 years who were also arrested have both been released without charge.
