Pair in court over riverside death

A man arrested in Shropshire is expected in court charged with a murder in Northern Ireland more than two years ago.

The 22-year-old was detained by detectives investigating the death of Lee Smyth.

Mr Smyth, 32, was attacked in a lane beside a river at Ballinahone Avenue, Armagh, on Sunday June 6, 2010.

He spent two years in hospital but never recovered, and died on June 12 this year.

Another 22-year-old man arrested in the Armagh area has also been charged with murder.

Both suspects are due to appear before Newry Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.

A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said the charges may be subject to change by the Public Prosecution Service.
