Pair injured after meat cleaver assault by gang in Newtownabbey

Two men have been injured following an assault by a gang armed with a meat cleaver in Newtownabbey.

It happened close to the Bellevue Bridge on the Antrim Road in the early hours of Sunday November 19.

It was reported that at 2.15am four men armed with weapons, including a meat cleaver, assaulted two men aged 22 and 19 before stealing money from them.

One of the men required stitches to a hand injury and the other received staples to their head.

Sergeant Emme Wallace said: "One male has since been arrested but released on bail in connection with this incident.

"I would ask that anyone with information contact 101 quoting reference 262 of 19/11/17, or if they wish to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
