Pair threatened with crossbow in Co Down

Police in Co Down are appealing for information after two men were threatened by an assailant brandishing a knife and a crossbow.

The victims' ordeal began when they left The International Bar on Cross Street in Killyleagh in the early hours of Sunday morning.

They were approached by two other men, one of them carrying a knife. One victim ran off, while the other was held and threatened before he escaped.

A short time later a number of men got out of a car in the Castleview area and police were told that a crossbow was used against the two victims.

The PSNI said it is investigating this allegation.

No-one was injured in either incident. In a follow-up operation uniformed officers recovered a knife and detectives from Downpatrick CID arrested two men.

Police would like to hear from anyone who has information about the incident or who saw anything suspicious near The International Bar or in Castleview anytime after 2am on Sunday. Officers can be contacted on 0845 600 8000.
