Paralympics ski star Kelly gets married

By Staff Reporter

History-making paralympic sportswoman Kelly Gallagher (31) was handed gold again this weekend as she and fiance Gerard Tohill exchanged their wedding vows.

Kelly Gallagher became a household name in 2014 when she won Team GB's first ever gold medal at the Paralympic Winter Games.

The visually impaired skier claimed victory in the Super-G event in Sochi in Russia alongside her guide, Charlotte Evans from Kent.

Both sportswomen were awarded the MBE in recognition of their achievement.

Kelly's pal Charlotte was a bridesmaid at the ceremony, and she tweeted a pic from the wedding of Kelly looking stunning in her wedding gown.

"Today was the day I got to see my best friend marry the amazing Gerard," Charlotte posted on social network Twitter. "Years of sitting on a chairlift, discussing whether it would ever happen and it's happened!

"You deserve all of this Kel.

"I am so honoured to be your bridesmaid and to be a part of your day!"

The Bangor woman - who works as a statistician for the Northern Ireland Civil Service - met architect Gerard several years ago through mutual friends in London.

He proposed to her on Christmas Day 2016 during a walk at Strandhill, Co Sligo, where the skier's mum lives.

Maths graduate Kelly also competed at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
