Park is polluted

By Michael McCready

The Waterworks Park was polluted at the weekend following a red diesel spillage.

On Saturday, staff from Belfast City Council were called to the north Belfast park to deal with the spill along with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA).

A spokesman for NIEA said: “NIEA were made aware of red diesel pollution at Waterworks Park on Saturday.

“Two staff were deployed and have traced the source. Statutory samples have been taken.

“Booms have been installed to stem and contain flow. An investigation is on going.”
