Park needs your calls

Staff facilitating an environmental project across south Belfast are calling on all of those who enjoy the area of outstanding natural beauty that is Lagan Valley Regional Park, to pick up the phone and vote.

Last week, Laganscape, a project that encourages school groups and local communities to get involved in Lagan Valley Regional Park, made it through to the semi-finals of the National Lottery awards competition.

Brendan O’Connor, Laganscape project manager said: “Winning this competition would help us to continue to protect the habitats, flora and fauna, landscapes and everything that visitors have come to value. We need your vote.”

People can vote for the park by either telephoning the following special lottery number — 08446866390, or by visiting the lottery’s website.

Laganscape aims to facilitate involvement of people and community groups who care passionately about their local area. The range of projects Laganscape undertake are detailed on the Lagan valley website,

One such group of projects involved school children planting a tree trail, creating ponds, building ‘minibeast mansions' and constructing a wildflower garden that brought birds, bees and butterflies to the playground.

Votes must be recorded before midday, June 18 and the final will be broadcast on a primetime BBC One show later in the year.
