Parrot and python among animals found after being stolen from pet shop

A parrot and python stolen from a pet shop in Ballymena have been recovered by police.

Seven tortoises and two lizards taken in the burglary were also found when officers searched a house in the town on Thursday.

They were all stolen from a store on Ladysmith Terrace on Monday.

A man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods after the animals were found in the house in the Lanntara area of Ballymena.

Police said Barney the African Grey parrot and all the other pets were safe and well.

PSNI Chief Inspector Simon Ball said: "I would like to thank the community for the information provided, through our local social media accounts and directly to the Neighbourhood Policing Team, which has brought this incident to a successful conclusion."

He appealed for witnesses to come forward.
