Passenger attempts to rob taxi-driver at knifepoint in west Belfast

A taxi driver has been left shaken after a passenger attempted to rob him at knifepoint in west Belfast.

The incident happened just after 11.40pm on Tuesday night in the Shaws Road area.

Police received a report that a passenger, armed with a small knife, attempted to rob a taxi driver which he was in the vehicle.

An altercation occurred and the passenger made off empty-handed.

The taxi-driver who was aged in his 50s was not injured in the incident but was left-shaken.

Detective Sergeant Conor Sweeney said: "The armed man is described as being aged in his late 20s, of slim build and with short brown hair. He was wearing a blue top and white trousers.

"I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
