Seven passengers on a Belfast-bound Translink coach escaped injury when the vehicle burst into flames.

The Goldline bus was travelling from Dungannon to Belfast when smoke and flames were spotted pouring from the engine compartment yesterday morning.

Fire crews attended the scene just outside Lurgan, near the Loughview park and ride facility, off the M1.

Motorist Gary McCoo uploaded a terrifying video clip to social media showing smoke and flames engulfing the rear of the vehicle as its emergency lights flashed orange.

Mr McCoo told the BBC that when he saw the fire he flagged down the bus to make sure the driver was aware of the blaze.

A Translink spokeswoman said: "All safety procedures were put in place. No one was injured and the driver and the seven passengers were all taken off the bus safely and transferred onto another bus to complete their journey.

"The incident occurred just outside Lurgan at around 7.45am yesterday.

"Emergency services attended and have extinguished the fire.

"Translink are currently investigating the cause of the incident."
