The PSNI has blamed a "technical error" for its failure to pay 12,000 former police officers and widows their pensions on time.
The former police officers and dependants should have received their payments yesterday.
However, what was described as "a technical error in the processing of pension payments over the festive period" meant that the money did not arrive.
In a statement, the PSNI pensions branch apologised for the error, and said anyone who incurred costs as a result of the late payment should contact them.
"Due to a technical error in the processing of pension payments over the festive period, the date for payment of pensions was regrettably missed today and will now be paid tomorrow (Tuesday)," the PSNI statement read.
"PSNI pension branch apologise for any inconvenience this has caused members and would ask anyone who may incur costs as a result of this late payment to contact them."
