BBC viewers were left puzzled by a bizarre microphone attached to Arlene Foster yesterday.

During an interview on BBC Breakfast, the DUP leader wore a small, furry microphone as she stood outside Stormont.

The microphone is designed to guard against the wind when interviews are conducted outdoors.

Several viewers, however, took to social media to comment on its peculiar appearance.

"Why has she got a tiny kitten's head hanging from her neck?" asked one Twitter user.

Another said: "BBC interviewed Arlene Foster and she seemed to have a hamster attacking her throat...yeh! Put on my glasses and I think it's a microphone."

One Twitter user also questioned whether the DUP leader had a "dead mouse" stuck on her neck, while another asked: "What's that thing on her throat?"
