Pedestrian dies following accident on motorway

By Victoria Leonard

A female pedestrian has died after a collision on a motorway near Belfast on Saturday night.

The collision happened on the M1 motorway eastbound, at Dunmurry Lane just after 10pm, police said.

"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police on the non-emergency number 101," Inspector John Millar added.

It was the first of two serious incidents on local roads at the weekend.

The emergency services were at the scene of a road traffic collision in Co Fermanagh.

It happened on the Clones Road in Newtownbutler, and led to the road being closed in both directions.

Police put diversions in place after the crash.

No further details were available at time of going to press.

So far this year, 36 people have died on Northern Ireland's roads.
