Pedestrian killed after being struck by car as he exited taxi in Co Armagh

A man in his 40s has been killed after he was struck by a car in Co Armagh.

The victim died after getting out of a taxi on the Gilford Road in Portadown during the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was killed after being struck by a Volkswagen Passat car shortly before 2am.

The Gilford Road was closed for a time but has since reopened.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly said her thoughts were with the family and friends of the victim.

"This is tragic news and it will be absolutely heartbreaking for the family whose loved one has died," she said.

The latest death on the roads brings the total killed in Northern Ireland this year to 21.
