Pedestrian killed in three-car crash in Downpatrick

An elderly pedestrian has been killed in a serious crash in Downpatrick involving three vehicles.

The man, aged in his 70s, died at the scene of the collision on Killard Road.

Police have closed the road between Ballyhornan village and the Kilclief Road and have arrested a 30-year-old man over "a number of offences".

The crash happened shortly before 4.20pm on Wednesday afternoon.

It is understood a black Seat Ibiza and a blue Vauxhall Corsa collided with a Land Rover.

A 19-year-old man believed to have been involved in the incident was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative main routes for their journey.

Officers are keen to hear from witnesses - call the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
