Police said a suspected firearm found on Northland Road in Derry was a pellet gun.

The road has reopened and the pellet gun taken away for further forensic examination.

"Police would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation during the incident," said Chief Inspector Jonathan Hunter.

The alert began at around 1.15 pm on Monday with cordons in place on the Branch Road at Buncrana Roundabout, Cosqhuin Road, Aileach Road and O’Naullian Crescent.

All have now been removed.
