Pensioner (81) knocked down along with child in buggy dies in hospital

An 81-year-old man knocked down along with a child in a push chair has died in hospital.

George McCaul from the Twinbrook area of Belfast was involved in the road collision on October 21, on the Upper Lisburn Road in Dunmurry.

He died in hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 3.50pm, with it reported the man and the four-year-old child were hit by a car.

The child was in a push chair during the incident, and sustained minor injuries. 

Inspector Eastwood said: "Mr McCaul was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries, but he sadly passed away in hospital during the early hours of yesterday morning.

"I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 947 21/10/18.”

A 37-year-old man was earlier arrested before being released on police bail pending further investigaion.
