Pensioner charged with assault

A pensioner has been charged with 21 offences including indecent assault and cruelty dating back to the 1960s.

The 79-year-old man will face seven counts of indecent assault and gross indecency, seven counts of cruelty and seven counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appears before Downpatrick court next month.

Police said the charges relate to historical offences that occurred against a number of people in the Downpatrick and greater Belfast areas between 1966 and the present.
