Pensioner has cash stolen in boomerang distraction burglary

A woman in her 80s was the victim of bogus callers who stole cash from her home after gaining entry by saying there was a boomerang in the garden.

Detectives in Castlereagh are appealing for information after the distraction burglary at the woman's home in the Gransha Road area on Thursday afternoon.

At around 2.40pm, a man called at the house and asked if the elderly woman had seen a boomerang in her back garden.

The male went with the resident to check the garden and it is believed, at this stage, two other men entered the front of the property and left with a sum of money. The resident was not injured during the incident.

Police are investigating a link between this and a similar incident which took place at Gilnahirk Park in Tullycarnet on Friday, November 15.

Police would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or anyone who has any information to contact them at Castlereagh CID on 0845 600 8000.
