Pensioner hit by car in stable condition in hospital - man arrested after Co Down incident

A woman aged in her 80s, is in a stable condition in hospital after she was hit by a car in Co Down.

One man aged in his 50s has been arrested in relation to the incident and is currently in police custody.

The woman was said to be seriously injured in the crash on the the Bangor Road in Newtownards on Thursday afternoon just after 4pm.

The woman was taken to the Ulster Hospital.

The road was closed for a period but has since been reopened to traffic.

“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 776 17/1/19,” police said.
