Pensioner is dragged down stairs by burglars

A man in his 70s was tied up in his home during an aggravated burglary in Co Down.

Detectives believe two to three men entered the house in the Downshire Road area of Holywood just before 10.45pm on Friday.

One man ran upstairs into the victim's bedroom and tied his wrists with a cable tie. This man claimed he had a weapon and demanded money before dragging the older man down a flight of stairs. The two struggled before a neighbour came to the house and raised the alarm. The burglars then fled.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Although not physically hurt in the incident, he was left very badly shaken."

A 32-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

On Saturday, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to steal.

Police said both men have been released on bail, pending further enquiries.
